What Counts as Post-Construction Window Cleaning?
This applies any time windows have been exposed to a construction or major remodel process, not just brand-new builds. That includes:
- New home construction, before the final walkthrough or move-in
- Remodels and additions where nearby windows picked up dust, paint, or debris
- Re-stucco or exterior painting jobs on an occupied home
- Re-roofing projects, where debris and grit commonly end up on nearby glass
Is It Safe to Scrape Paint Overspray Off My Windows Myself?
This is a real question people ask, and the honest answer is: it depends heavily on technique, and getting it wrong is expensive. A metal razor blade can safely lift cured paint off plain, uncoated glass — but only when the glass is flooded with lubrication first, the blade is brand new (a nicked or dull blade will score a visible line into the glass), and the pass is short, straight, and flat against the surface. A dry scrape, an old blade, or lifting the corner of the blade even slightly is how people end up trading paint spots for permanent scratches.
It gets riskier fast if your windows have tint, a Low-E coating, or any specialty glass treatment — aggressive scraping or the wrong chemical can permanently damage those in a way that’s not repairable, unlike plain glass. If you’re not certain what kind of glass you have, that uncertainty alone is a good reason to have it assessed before anyone takes a blade to it.
What We Remove
- Paint overspray and drips, whether fresh or fully cured
- Stucco splatter and drywall mud on and around the glass
- Sticker and label adhesive residue, including manufacturer and energy-rating labels
- Construction dust and grit packed into window tracks and frames
- Saw-cut debris from on-site wood or metal cutting
- Silicone and caulk smears left behind during installation

Why This Isn’t the Same as a Regular Cleaning
A standard window cleaning is soap, a squeegee, and maybe a stubborn spot here or there. Post-construction cleaning is closer to careful surface restoration: different contaminants need different treatment (dried latex paint doesn’t respond to the same approach as cured spray paint or hardened stucco), tracks and frames need real detail work, and the wrong tool on the wrong material can cause the exact damage you’re trying to fix. That’s the whole reason this is worth hiring out rather than treating as a heavier version of a normal cleaning.
How Much Does This Cost?
| Factor | Why It Affects the Cost |
| More Time Required | Post-construction cleaning takes more time than a standard window cleaning. |
| Specialized Techniques | Paint, stucco, adhesive, and construction grit require different methods and techniques. |
| Condition of the Glass | Light dust and a few paint specks are very different from cured overspray covering every pane. |
| Tracks & Frames | Tracks packed with stucco dust require additional cleaning and detail work. |
| Risk of Damage | Rushed or incorrect cleaning techniques can increase the risk of damaging the glass. |
| Accurate Quote | We inspect the actual condition before quoting, so you get an honest price instead of a lowball estimate that becomes a surprise later. |
Why San Clemente Windows Get This So Fast
Two things stack on top of each other here that don’t affect most inland cities:
Timig
Why Sooner Is Easier Than Later
Fresh contamination is almost always easier and cheaper to remove than the same material after it’s had weeks to cure and bond to the glass. Paint overspray that’s still soft responds to gentler methods; once it’s fully cured, it often needs more aggressive technique to remove safely, which takes more time and carries more risk. If you’re planning a remodel, paint job, or re-stucco, scheduling the window cleaning soon after the work wraps up — rather than “whenever we get around to it” — genuinely makes the job easier on the glass and less expensive for you.
Should I Try This Myself?
For light dust and a few small paint specks on plain glass, careful DIY cleaning is reasonable if you’re comfortable with the blade technique described above. For anything more than that — cured overspray across multiple panes, stucco splatter, tinted or coated glass, or windows you’re not fully sure about — this is where professional experience actually pays for itself. The cost of a professional cleaning is almost always less than the cost of replacing a scratched pane.
How Booking Works
- Tell us what happened — new construction, a remodel, re-stucco, re-roofing, or something else.
- We inspect the actual glass and debris before quoting, not over the phone.
- Get an honest price based on what’s really there, not a guess.
- We clean using the right method for each contaminant, protecting your glass rather than just removing what’s visible as fast as possible.

What a Typical Post-Construction Job Looks Like
A newly built home with manufacturer labels still on every window, plus light drywall dust in the tracks: labels come off cleanly with a plastic blade and the right adhesive treatment, tracks get vacuumed and detailed, and the whole job is straightforward since nothing has had time to cure or bond.
A remodel where the exterior painters oversprayed onto three windows and stucco splatter dried onto two more: the overspray responds to careful blade work once the glass is flooded with lubrication, while the stucco splatter needs a different chemical approach entirely. Both get resolved without scratching the glass, but the job takes real time because two different contaminants are involved.
